Facebook 99% Culture Free

The young upstart social network Facebook is deciding to embrace mediocrity at the ascent of its popularity. Over the last few weeks Facebook has removed a feminist pro porn page( no porn was displayed or linked too), the Liberator sex furniture company had its page removed, they recently they removed a pot legalization ad.

Of course, Facebook, as a private company can decide their own policies, and a user can decide whether they wish to participate in Facebook. But it seems the social networking company is drafting their policies as they go, respond to whatever pressure group makes enough noise.  The acts I described above seem to contradict their mission that it is “giving people the power to share and make the world more open and connected”.

They are breaking a rule of business which is to stick with one thing and do it well, instead they seem to be distracted by the very Clinton-esque method of trying to sell to everyone, making everyone happy, instead of focusing on their original mission. A company not focusing on its goals or mission, has long term negative revenue consequences for a business.

The primary reason I choose not participate in Facebook is that to me it functions as a marketing platform, nor was I inclined to participate when they first came on the scene as a way for high school and college kids to share photos from the previous weekends kegger. Now as they have loftier ambitions will they too become apprehensive in search of the almighty dollar, afraid to take risks, becoming irrelevant,  like their predecessors, AOL, or Yahoo.

We’ll see…

Non Consensual Voyeurs

Much of our leisure time is occupied navigating the internets; the wonderful tubes of information to gratify ourselves in many different ways. Not just sexual gratification, whole “communities” of people who identify and relate to a common theme. It can be of any topic that has enthusiasts who want to share their knowledge, facilitating easy communication for those who otherwise would never have the opportunity to do so.

As people know, or may not know every website  has your interests recorded in a database somewhere, not entirely a bad thing, good consumer intelligence some would say. But like all endeavors it has its bad apples who have a sick need to exercise control over other people.

Glen Greenwald stated: The ways in which the loss of privacy destroys a society are somewhat abstract and difficult to articulate, though very real.  A society in which people know they are constantly being monitored is one that breeds conformism and submission, and which squashes innovation, deviation, and real dissent.

As we participate in activities that we consent too, having this unprecedented surveillance is a real threat to those of us who live what is labeled “an alternative lifestyle”.

Its not a small step to consider that in this typically fascist America today we are sliding towards on oligarchy of super wealthy people ruling over the “less well to do population”. These are the types that create legislation such as, the Patriot Act, the Arizona anti immigrant bill, non nudity, no touch strip bars. The country is littered laws from federal, state, and local  communities whose moral standards of living have not evolved much since the second century.

Since most kinky gatherings are not publicly known, and that some perceived social retribution is too costly to be open about your choices. Its not unreal to perceive the creation of laws that outlaws or restricts participating in such activity.

All over the country there is hysteric legislation that is targeted at people of color. But what if the bosses get tired of just picking on the poor ethnic groups, and just go after the rest of us who enjoy getting our kicks out of consensual flogging.

As the rich grow more powerful, making sure they cause enough hysteria to keep honest folks from thinking clearly. We may see laws drafted that restrict our ability to communicate about our consensual desires. Sites such as Fetlife, Collar Me, or Kink.com could be blocked or restricted by communities that have enough motivated voters to pass such oppressive legislation.

Voting time is approaching in parts of the USA, when walking into the voting booth take the time educate yourself about who you are voting for. For the vote you cast may be for the person who is going to help you build your own coffin, and they will do so with a smile.

Truth Dying On The Vine

We were sitting in the bar, its long oak table stretched beside us, its solid surface decorated with various drinks of gold, red, and brown. The altar of various tribes of spirits in front of us as we looked backed at our reflections. We were listening John Pilger on Democracy Now as he was speaking of “a war on truth telling” regarding this article, exposing a small part of the soap opera that is our imperial regime.

Jeez guy who wrote the article must have really pissed someone off, a colleague remarked, putting his glass to his lips.

He told the the truth, he reported what he saw, and who is to say that perhaps, his subject wanted did things he wanted the reporter to see, another of our group of four commented.

A patron from the corner hearing our conversation said; “I cant believe a man of that rank not knowing what he was getting himself into when allowing a reporter to follow him, if he is that naive then he deserves to be fired.”

I agreed with the sentiment by this commentary, and got the feeling the story was written as though the general was working with the reporter to lay the groundwork for either a political career, or a Hollywood film development deal.

Isn’t there an old army saying he was so dumb even the other generals noticed.

Which led to more drinks, then extended ramblings about the larger questions ignored by the laughable mainstream media.

Always at War with something aren’t we ? The war on truth in whatever form, the truth about sex, the truth about our government, the truth about processed food, the list goes on ad nauseam.

We looked back at our beers while on the tv the obedient media wolves continued to descended upon any offensive interloper. Enforcing a strict omerta on anyone who dare speak out, whether it be politics, sex, culture, or education.

Poser Women

I dont often pay heed to the anti porn/sex crowd, kind of similar to an angry homeless women shouting at her grocery cart you cross the street to avoid. You know shes more of a harm to herself than anyone else, but you still want to keep your distance.

While this group had a conference making the best use of its time speaking about degenerate men in basements. I was looking for them to say something about the corporate exploitation of its teen age demographic ? Or how bout taking on Cosmopolitan magazine ? I first grew hard over naked boobs in Cosmo magazine, or is it ok to for them to do it since they trowel on the makeup of self serving stylish aesthetic.

I noticed too that they are against violence, but I guess its ok as long as the women the violence is done to look different from them.

You can find out more about the anti porn conference hysteria listening to Kink On Tap’s latest show.

Bob Crane

If you havnt seen the movie Auto Focus starring Greg Kinnear you should, its a moody bio-pic whose subject is Bob Crane.

Mr Crane certainly wasnt the first to record his sexual conquests, nor the first tragic celebrity who was, in one aspect a victim of his times.

The movie is a subtle reminder of how parochial attitudes shape our impulses, motivations, and reactions. Certainly if circumstances were different and there was no “shame” in being curious or enthusiastic about sex, perhaps Mr Crane might have had a different life altogether.

Sex Appeal Redfined

At Violet Blue she considers the term erotic capital, which is some sociologist new buzzword for what in the past we called confidence and charisma. I was thinking of this in relation to Georgia. She has quite a bit of “erotic capital” men (and women) seem to be drawn to her, its quite a fascinating phenomenon to observe. Georgia is sometimes blinded to it, but she is comfortable with herself, confident in her work, mind, and body.

Which got me thinking about what I find attractive sexually. I don’t go for the stereotype, what appeals to me is sexually something unique, not only physically but mentally as well. Intelligence appeals to me, being intelligent brings about confidence which boosts appeal in other areas of your life. Those types of women, like my Georgia are the ones who make my knees weak.
